Is Kaki free to use?
Yes. Finding games, joining clubs, and posting open seats are free. Some venues may charge for table bookings, and organisers can set entry fees for tournaments.
Do I need to know how to play mahjong?
Not at all. Kaki is built for everyone from curious beginners to seasoned players — find friendly tables and clubs happy to teach.
Which rulesets does Kaki support?
Kaki supports Riichi (Japanese), HKM (Hong Kong Mahjong), and Indonesian Traditional Mahjong (ITM). Riichi is played under two rulesets — Standard (25,000 start, kiriage off) and WRC Rules (30,000 start, kiriage on) — and organisers pick the one they play by. Kaki handles seating, scoring, and standings around it.
How do the leaderboards work?
There are four separate boards — Riichi · Standard, Riichi · WRC Rules, Riichi · 3-player, and Hong Kong — and a board only ever ranks games played under its own ruleset. The two Riichi boards are never added together: the same finish is worth different points under each, so summing them would rank whoever played more of the more generous ruleset. Play both and you simply hold a standing on both.
How are leaderboard points worked out?
In Riichi you get a placement bonus (uma) on top of how far above or below the 30,000 return line you finished: Standard pays +30/+10/−10/−30 and hands 1st a further +20 oka, WRC Rules pays +15/+5/−5/−15 with no oka. Hong Kong works differently — it is placement only. Your chips at the table decide who came 1st through 4th and nothing more, and the board pays +5/+1/−1/−5 for those four places. A big win and a narrow one are worth the same on the Hong Kong board.
What happens if I chombo?
On the Riichi boards a chombo costs you leaderboard points — 20 under Standard, 30 under WRC Rules. It comes off your score only: nobody at the table is paid it, and your point sticks in the game itself are untouched. Hong Kong records a chombo against you but charges nothing for it.
When does a game count towards a board?
It has to be a real, attached game in a ranked format — played on a table booking, an open table, an event, or at a club. Whoever keeps score submits the result and it is confirmed there and then; there is no waiting period to sit through. If a result is wrong, report the game and the club that hosted it (or the venue, if there was no club) will look at it.
How do payments work?
Payments are handled by a secure third-party gateway with QRIS, e-wallet, and card support. Kaki never stores your card details.
